Norrbotten Big Band × Michael Mayo recording at IMRSV

Norrbotten Big Band joined vocalist and composer Michael Mayo at IMRSV in Stockholm for a recording session bringing together big band arrangements with jazz, soul, R&B and contemporary influences.
Originally from Los Angeles and now based in New York, Michael Mayo comes from a family deeply rooted in music. His mother, singer Valerie Pinkston, has worked with artists including Diana Ross, Beyoncé and Ray Charles, while his father, saxophonist Scott Mayo, has collaborated with Earth, Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder.
Michael studied with Herbie Hancock at a young age and has since established himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz. His collaboration with Norrbotten Big Band brings his musical world into a large-ensemble setting, combining expressive vocals with rich orchestral textures.
Norrbotten Big Band is a modern big band with deep roots in the jazz tradition, bringing together some of Sweden’s leading musicians. Their work spans jazz, soul, funk and contemporary art music, and the ensemble has received several Swedish Grammis nominations as well as international Grammy recognition.
Six songs were recorded during the sessions at IMRSV.
